Getting ready for Xmas 2015!

The staff put up Christmas lights and nativity scene in anticipation of celebrating this year’s birthday of our Savior. Take a look at these pictures taken by the staff, Leonard, Alex and David that show special star shower lights.

Thanks for the shoes! (8-2-2015)

men-shoesThe Mission would like to thank the State Leather and Shoe Company in San Antonio for providing the Mission with 28 new pairs of men’s shoes. This is greatly appreciated as the men are on their feet all day!  Thanks so much!

North Carolina visit (6-18-15)

Thirty youth choir members visited the Mission on Thursday, June 18th from First Baptist Church, Smithfield, North Carolina.  The youth sang wonderful songs and provided a sermon to thirty men who were present.  Thanks to the youth for the great songs and word which encouraged the men.  Click HERE for a link to a YouTube video of the group singing at all the places in San Antonio they visited including the San Jose Mission, Woodland Baptist Church and The Meadows Retirement Center.

Italian feast (5-15-2015)

Woodland Baptist Church provided a delicious lasagna dinner for the men on March 15th, 2015.  The meal included fresh fruit, rolls, sodas, banana pudding and cookies. Thanks to Woodland for again serving the men great food with a smile!

Meatball Mania (3-20-15)

Woodland Baptist Church hosted a dinner of meatball subs on Friday, March 20 with delicious fresh fruit, cookies, cherry and apple pies. The men ate heartily and enjoyed everything. Thanks to Woodland whose members are trying to serve a meal once a month at the Mission.

Little Caesars Pizza visits (3-8-2015)

The Mission was visited by Little Caesars Love Kitchen on March 8, 2015.  Love Kitchen travels across the country meeting the needs of the hungry, homeless and disaster survivors.  According to their web site HERE  the Love Kitchen has served more than two million people in 48 states and four Canadian provinces. About 35 men and staff enjoyed 33 delicious pepperoni and cheese pizzas and were completely stuffed. We would like to thank Little Caesars for their contribution of this wonderful meal to the Mission, and for their ongoing work in helping meet the needs of homeless people and many others.

Birthday Bash (2-17-2015)

Ruth Graeter decided to celebrate her birthday by giving a catered dinner for the men. Rather than receiving gifts, she wanted to “give” on her birthday as a way of giving thanks for life’s blessings. The men had second and third helpings of chicken-fried steak with gravy, potatoes, green beans, and even apple pie and ice cream. Thanks to Ruth for making her special day a special one for the men!

Christmas Eve 2014

The men enjoyed a wonderful and reverent Christmas Eve service with lots of Christmas songs and Jake preaching and giving the Lord’s supper to all the men. Then, the men received gigantic Christmas bags full of goodies including cookies, candies, snacks, T-shirts, socks and many kinds of toiletries. The gifts were from different churches. Also, the Mission had a wonderful lighted manger scene on the front steps.

Lasagna with love at Christmas, 2014

Members of Woodland Baptist Church served up lasagna, green beans, bread and pies with lots of love on Friday night, Dec. 19th. They also provided the men with socks, gloves, underwear and other personal items. The men were thankful for the wonderful meal and were also very stuffed afterwards. Thanks to Woodland for making the men feel special this Christmas!

Giving thanks for turkey and stocking hats! (12-1-2014)

The men received a bountiful turkey dinner on Thanksgiving Day, and hand-made stocking hats on Dec. 1st from a generous lady named Ruth Graeter, a member of Northern Hills Methodist Church. The turkey and trimmings included stuffing, yams, green beans and gravy. Thanks to the staff for the delicious meal, and thanks to Ruth for her dedication in keeping the men’s heads warm this winter! Woodland Baptist Provides Meal (8-15-2014)

Woodland Baptist members provided an outstanding meal for the men on Friday night, August 15th. After the chapel service given by a church member, the meal was served with smiles and enthusiasm.  The food included chicken pot pies, green beans, mashed potatoes, apple sauce, home-made chocolate brownies and vanilla ice cream, with cold sodas. The men were very appreciative and ate heartily. Thanks to the members of Woodland Baptist for their hard work, and making the men feel special.

Oklahoma Group Wows Men (5-29-2014)

A group from First Baptist Church, Kingfisher, Oklahoma provided a wonderful program of praise and worship music and scripture reading to the Rescue Mission men on Friday, May 23rd. They also served a delicious meal of chicken spaghetti, green beans, rolls, brownies and ice cream. The mission group came to San Antonio as part of a week-long tour called “Praise is Rising” and consists of junior high and high-school age students, led by Dennis and Nan Allen. They also sang at other locations in the city including the San Antonio Food Bank and SAMM Warehouse. Thanks to this wonderful group of folks for making a memorable evening at the Mission!
