Fifty years ago today, October 22, 1975, the San Antonio Rescue Mission opened its doors for the first time, and 7 men were ministered to that night. They slept on pallets on the floor since there were no beds! In a November 1975 letter, a Board member stated, “We have been housing men for a little over a week, and God has given us many victories. We have seen a good number saved.” In the same letter our first SARM President Don Staffy stated, “Our vision of a soul winning Rescue Mission is now a reality…God has given us a dedicated group of evangelical directors and a Bible believing body of prayer partners to be co-laborers with us in this work.” Guess what? Just last week, a guest made a decision to accept Christ during the service at the Mission, fifty years later! So, our Founders’ vision to bring the Gospel to the lost and needy, is still working today, thanks to God’s grace and your support and prayers!
